Album Name The Scythe. Released date 14 September 2007. Recorded at Sherpa Studios. Music StyleFolk Metal. Members owning this album72. This album is an extremely good Power Metal record with a few folk elements added in like the violin, but it definitely is not folk. When I first saw Elvenking I was hoping to hear something like Korpiklaani or Ensiferum. Instead I got a band somewhat similar to Blind Guardian with a lower pitched singer. Of course that is not a bad thing by any means, but I do not think they are quite as good as Blind Guardian. This album is full of epic melodic riffs which are extremely catchy and a lot of songs like The Divided Heart have extremely catchy choruses
The String Quartet: Eleonora Steffan - Violin Valentina Mosca - Violin Elyghen - Viola Marco Balbinot - Cello.

The Scythe (2007) by Elvenking. Genres: Power Metal, Folk Metal Members: Damnagoras, Aydan, Gorlan, Elyghen, Zender.
The Scythe's emotional tone is as inconsistent and unpredictable as it could possibly be. Elvenking's desire to do something a little different is understandable but The Scythe finds the band going too far afield for their own good. Or the listener’s good. All in all, I really enjoyed this album. I can see why many Elvenking fans are disappointed with the new album, but if you clear your mind and prepare yourself for something entirely different, you might just love this album. I applaud Elvenking for this brave new direction they have taken, and unlike my disappointment in Sonata Arctica's "Unia", I have fallen in love with this new style.
The Scythe, which was recorded in 2006 and 2007, is clearly louder and more forceful than any of Elvenking's previous releases; play this 55-minute CD right after listening to their 2006 release Winter's Wake, and it is impossible to miss the fact that Elvenking was determined to rock a lot harder on The Scythe (which boasts guest solos by guitarist. Mike Wead of Candlemass and King Diamond fame)
The Scythe is the fourth studio album by Italian folk/power metal band Elvenking. The Scythe was released on September 14, 2007 through AFM Records in all European countries, and November 7 in the USA by Candlelight Records. This is the first concept album by Elvenking, with lyrics centered on the death of a beautiful woman along with themes of revenge and deceit. This is also illustrated in the video to "The Divided Heart".
