39 USD. Johnny at his zenith! Johnny Mathis. Geboren 1937 in San Francisco Beinahe hätte der Ex-Sportlehrer seine Talente als Athlet beweisen müssen, denn 1956 sollte er an den Qualifikationskämpfen für die Olympischen Spiele teilnehmen.

Close To You is an album by American pop singer Johnny Mathis that was released on August 19, 1970, by Columbia Records and mostly included his recordings of hits that other artists had that year. The exceptions were the new movie theme "Pieces of Dreams" and the 1967 songs "Wave" by Antônio Carlos Jobim and "Yellow Days", which was an Easy Listening hit for former Mathis collaborator Percy Faith. In the UK the album was retitled after a different song Mathis covered on it, "The Long and Winding Road".

Johnny Mathis is the debut studio album by vocalist Johnny Mathis that was released by Columbia Records in 1956. The subtitle A New Sound in Popular Song can be found on the back cover but not on the front of the album or the disc label; in fact, this Mathis LP has been referred to as "the jazz album". Close To You is the thirty-third original studio album released by singer Johnny Mathis.

Johnny Mathis kicked off the 1970s with a series of albums that found the Voice of Romance reinventing the day’s chart hits in inimitably lush fashion. Real Gone Music and Second Disc Records are continuing the journey through the legendary singer’s 1970s catalog with an expanded, two-for-one compact disc release of the classic studio albums Close to You and Love Story. This deliciously eclectic album yielded the Academy Award-nominated movie theme Pieces of Dreams, a top 10 AC hit for Mathis. It was followed in early 1971 by Love Story, produced by Gold with arrangements by Perry Botkin, J. a frequent collaborator of Harry Nilsson. They Long to Be Close to You. Evil Ways. Come Saturday Morning.

Johnny Mathis teamed with Richard Perry (Nilsson Schmilsson, Ringo, Barbra Streisand’s Stoney End) for 1971’s You’ve Got a Friend, and now that classic album is making its . I think this album is also special as it features the warmth of his lower range combined with that unique soaring pitch perfect high range. I'm now in my early 50's and a fan of Foo Fighters, Led Zeppelin, Joe Walsh, Metallica etc, and I love this album equally.
