He became, according to the Columbus Museum of Art, "the most acclaimed American artist of his generation". George Wesley Bellows was born and raised in Columbus, Ohio. He was the only child of George Bellows and Anna Wilhelmina Smith Bellows (he had a half-sister, Laura, 18 years his senior).

Celebrate realist painter George Wesley Bellows's birthday with a few of his classic paintings of American life. American Realist painter George Wesley Bellows is known largely for his daring depictions of early 20th century life in New York City, but his story goes much deeper than the glossy surface of his oil-based works. Bellows was born on August 12, 1882 in Columbus, Ohio and died of a ruptured appendix on January 8, 1925 at 42. When he was criticized for depicting events for which he was never present, in a clever comeback, the artist said he wasn’t aware that Leonardo da Vinci had a ticket to paint the Last Supper.

When Bob Dylan assembled a band for his 1978 world tour, he made a point of dramatically reworking his greatest hits for the performances. One of the most dramatic changes was this ‘Freewheelin’ Bob Dylan’ chestnut, which traded a spare, finger-picked guitar for an expansive reggae lilt. Good or bad, listeners certainly heard the song differently. Stewart Copeland keeps his sticks light while Sting bellows some pseudo-Jamaican wordlessness in the closing moments. It’s only fitting that the song comes from the band’s second album, ‘Regatta de Blanc,’ which translates loosely as white reggae. 'Mother and Child Reunion'.
