Music from Rodgers & Hammerstein's South Pacific - Some Enchanted Evening, There is Nothing Likea Dame and More .

For the Decca album, see Music of Hawaii (album). Music of the United States. The Honolulu Symphony Orchestra is an important part of the state's musical history, and is the oldest orchestra in the United States west of the Rocky Mountains, founded in 1900  . From 1915 to 1930, mainstream audiences outside of Hawaii became increasingly enamored of Hawaiian music, though by this time the songs marketed as Hawaiian had only peripheral aspects of actual Hawaiian music. It has become popular across the world, especially among ethnic groups and races that have been historically oppressed, such as Native Americans, Pacific Islanders, and Australian Aborigines.

Pacific Islanders or Pasifika, are the peoples of the Pacific Islands. It is a geographic and ethnic/racial term to describe the inhabitants and diaspora of any of the four major sub-regions of Oceania: Micronesia, Melanesia, Polynesia, and Philippines. It is not used to describe non-native inhabitants of the Pacific islands (. Indians and Europeans living in the Pacific are not ethnically Pacific Islanders).

Rodgers & Hammerstein's South Pacific was the first Rodgers & Hammerstein musical to open following the creation of The Tony Awards in 1947! The Original Broadway production won 10 Tony Awards, including all four musical acting awards. To this day, no other production - dramatic or musical - has swept those four categories.

It also sold better than the soundtrack album, but the soundtrack's commercial performance was not at all shabby. The film was one of 1958's ten biggest moneymakers, but the soundtrack did even better. Its run of more than seven months at number one tied it for fourth place among the longest chart toppers in history behind the original Broadway cast album, the soundtrack to West Side Story, and Michael Jackson's Thriller. It was not only the most successful album of 1958, but the most successful album of the second half of the 1950s.

This is classic Masterseal. The artists are rendered variously thus: for Side A South Pacific, on the label as Jacques Darieux Orchestra and on the sleeve as Don Raleigh & His Orchestra, for Side B Songs of Hawaii, on the label and sleeve as The Islanders, whoever they may or may not be, but within the liner notes the work is attributed to Moki Kaaihui And His Orchestra.
The track list for Side A differs between sleeve and label but that is moot because neither is grounded in reality. I can report that A2 thru A4 are Some Enchanted Evening, I'm In Love With A Wonderful Guy, and Bali Hai, while the presence of multiple themes in A1 and A5 may indicate that they are overture and finale. For Side B the sleeve and label listings align except B5 which is Beachcomber on sleeve and Harbor Lights on label. This is again moot. I'm not familiar enough with the repertoire to determine what exactly is going on but there are in fact only 5 tracks, Aloha Oe does not appear on any of them, and B5 is actually Hawaiian War Chant.
The catalog number is "MST-221" on the label and "212" on the back of the sleeve.
Interestingly enough they also used the same pic on Makamia And His Moana Islanders - Holiday In Hawaii.
