Hi Tim, I love the new album, just got one question! In each of your albums, you seem to reinvent your music, trying new ways to experiment with new sounds, and it seems that Love Streams puts a sonic focus on the human voice. Hi Tim, love streams was awesome. a little jarring, but great. My question is about your song Kaito from mirages: what is the sample from the end of the song, around the 2:35 mark, taken from? this has bothered me for years.

Love Streams' winding, tributary structure flows naturally but evades straight lines. The album boasts Hecker's broadest timbral palette to date: he moves effortlessly between the acoustic and the electronic, the gossamer and the wooly. Tim Hecker returns with another bleak and haunting experience on Love Streams. The acclaimed 2013 release Virgins is now finally followed with a less progressive (but still pretty interesting) take on ambient, drone and electronic soundscape crafting. The producer dwelves into a rather nostalgic and derivative direction with this album, taking the listener back to some of his earlier experiments with Daniel Lopatin (who plays an unexpected role here as one of the primmary influences to the.

Listening to Love Streams, there’s a weight and complexity to its sound that makes it hard to focus on anything else – there’s almost too much information. The arrangements were adapted from 15th century choral motifs using Melodyne software, with Hecker stretching the melodies into what he calls mutant pieces , which Jóhannsson arranged for an eight-piece ensemble. There’s certainly something funny about Tim Hecker’s work, a droll humour that’s laced through Love Streams’ track titles and sequencing, like placing ‘Castrati Stack’ before ‘Voice Crack’ – castrati were male singers whose voices were preserved in their unbroken upper registers by castration, a practice that persisted until the 19th century.

The result is a unique and ultimately worthy addition to his catalogue. When this album falters it's due to a resistance of inertia at distinct points, namely in the first half where momentum is ground to a halt on two occasions to make room for a couple of so-so pieces. Love Streams exhibits its full potential in the second half though, providing a number of breathtaking moments that, for me, facilitate the contemplation of meta-level concepts, such as our futile insignificance with respect to time and space-or perhaps just help to make my bus-ride a little less dreary.
