On that note, Suuns' Images Du Futur is indeed a derivative record, but in a paradoxically unique way that doesn't allow the typical mitigating circumstances to be considered. The Montreal band doesn't recall a specific era of music, nor do they remind one of the kind of band so ingrained in the culture that they're basically public domain. This is something far more weird: on their debut Zeroes QC, Suuns occasionally sounded like Clinic, a band that is still functioning and wholly idiosyncratic, in between extended bouts of electronic, psych-prog freakouts

Images du Futur Tracklist.

Sophomore follow-up Images du Futur is an entirely more cohesive synthesis of the heavy and the spare, with the band creating both space and dramatic tension within even their most driving songs. Tracks like "2020" draw on various styles and elements without becoming cluttered, even when a wobbly, near-dubstep electronic bass pulse is the backdrop for guitar lines that shift between skronky no wave slides and shimmering, ghostly tremolo.

Everything on Images Du Futur feels so polished and tweaked to perfection. Nothing ever sounds out of place, and not a second is wasted. This isn’t to imply that their debut was lacking in focus or direction. Overall, it would be safe to say this this album is a powerful and engaging listen. The tone it creates is completely unique within today’s music scene. Suuns creates a world of sonic textures to get completely immersed in. The journey that their music takes you on is disorientating, sometimes confusing, but always interesting and rewarding at every turn.

Images Du Futur is exciting in a way that few albums manage to be, dangerous and compelling like a first cigarette or fumbled sexual encounter, and nothing here quite seems real: these ten tracks exist in a half-light, a nocturnal fog a step removed from lucid thought. And a long, long way from anything routine. On an album that rarely shakes off its shroud of unease, Suuns paint a pretty bleak picture of all our tomorrows, but their own dazzling . utur’ looks assured.

This record sounds like shit. For clarity - and I wish the lp had some - I love the album - but it's possible that the use of two colours in the vinyl render this unlistenable with anything approaching a decent stylus. It sounds like a de-tuned radio. Get the 'normal' LP to listen to, get this one to marvel at as a thing of beauty.
The other LP sucks too. Side A okay but side B is unlistenable.
I agree, so much surface noise and distortion. Super bummed.
