The orchestral muscle was provided by arranger Eddie Sauter; the heady and fluid horn lines, of course, came from Getz.

The story goes that Stan Getz personally guaranteed MGM would not lose money on this LP if they left it in the catalogue like a classical music album rather than deleting it within the year. By 1961 when "Focus" was recorded, Stan Getz was a rising jazz star. Focus" is one of a kind. The strings are not used as "filler" behind Getz's marvelous playing. The Beaux Arts Orchestra does not sound as if they are a "second thought". One of the great moments in the history of music is this album.

The record features Stan in a totally new setting, playing with some relatively unfamiliar French talents – Eddie Louiss on organ, Rene Thomas on guitar, and Bernard Lubat on drums. Louiss is incredible, and has a free spacey sound that recalls Larry Young. LP, Vinyl record album. A lost chapter in the Stan Getz sound of the 60s – an album that features Stan blowing in front of some beautiful backdrops set by Lalo Schifrin and Claus Ogerman! The sound is super mellow – dreamy, but never sleepy – with Stan blowing in these soulful, magical, exploratory.
