This song is just so beautiful it doesn't sound like it is about 47 years ol. was only 13 years old when this came out and didn't get into Phil until 5 years later when I was 1. nd I loved him from the first time I heard him and love him as much today. I luckily got to see. Phil in 71 or 72 at a small folk club. Miss you much Phil Ochs. Dedicating this song to my mom. She died 43 years ago, Memorial Day. I listened to this song a million times for her. Rest in Peace Mom.

Live in Montreal 10/22/66. Phil Ochs Format: Vinyl. Live In Montreal 10/22/66. The Montreal gig was smack dab between his final Elektra album and his first release for A&M Records in November '67. On the former he's still the lone troubadour, armed only with a guitar that kills fascists (to paraphrase Woody Guthrie), while on the latter he utilizes ornate orchestration and piano accompaniment ranging from classical to ragtime. In many of the renditions heard on this live set, one can hear Ochs toying with the arrangements, adjusting the tempo mid-song and applying dissonance for effect. In some instances, his ideas outrun his technical capabilities.

Philip David Ochs (/ˈoʊks/; December 19, 1940 – April 9, 1976) was an American protest singer (or, as he preferred, a topical singer) and songwriter who was known for his sharp wit, sardonic humor, earnest humanism, political activism, insightful and alliterative lyrics, and distinctive voice. He wrote hundreds of songs in the 1960s and 1970s and released eight albums.
