Herbie Hancock - Round Midnight / How Long Has This Been Gong On? mp3 album

This beautiful tune is performed by: Herbie Hancock (piano).

How Long Has This Been Going On is the twenty-fourth studio album by Northern Irish singer-songwriter Van Morrison, "with Georgie Fame and Friends", released in December 1995 (see 1995 in music) in the UK. It charted at on Top Jazz Albums. The album was recorded live (but without an audience) at Ronnie Scott's Jazz Club, London, England, on 3 May 1995, and features a number of jazz standards and a be-bop influenced rendition of Morrison's classic "Moondance".

'Round Midnight" is a 1944 composition by pianist Thelonious Monk that quickly became a jazz standard and has been recorded by a wide variety of artists. A version recorded by Monk's quintet was added to the Grammy Hall of Fame in 1993. It is the most recorded jazz standard composed by a jazz musician. It is thought that Monk composed the song sometime in 1940 or 1941.

In addition to Gordon, this historic and generally well-rounded album has performances by pianists Herbie Hancock and Cedar Walton, vocalist Bobby McFerrin, bassists Ron Carter and Pierre Michelot, drummers Tony Williams and Billy Higgins, guitarist John McLaughlin, trumpeters Freddie Hubbard and Chet Baker, Wayne Shorter on tenor and soprano, vibraphonist Bobby Hutcherson and a vocal by Lonette McKee. How Long Has This Been Going On? George Gershwin, Ira Gershwin.

When Herbie Hancock won the Oscar for Best Original Score for Round Midnight, it turned into one of the most controversial wins in Oscar history. Yet if you only look at the roster of musicians that star on this soundtrack, you can hardly guess why the judges picked this over Ennio Morricone. Dexter Gordon, who played an alcoholic jazz musician in New York and Paris in the film, features on almost every song, but he isn't the only star of the Jazz pantheon that graced these sessions with his presence  .
